Dear Grade One Parents,
What a joy and privilege to be at MEI and to be teaching your children! I am excited to be able to share this Grade One experience with you and will be with your child each Thursday. I am also excited to be working with Mrs. Moews, sharing and learning together, with her, you as parents, and your child.
I have been fortunate to be teaching at MEI for some time. I started teaching in 1995 in the portables that was the start of the Elementary School. Here I taught Gr. 2/3 for two years and then Grade 3 for four years in the new school. It was at this time that my husband and I moved to Lafayette, Indiana for Myron to attend Purdue University (any college football fans out there?) and Notre Dame University to do a PhD in Philosophy. Since we have been back, I have worked part-time at MEI, three years in Grade 4 and now in the fourth year in Grade One! I am looking forward to being back in the primary grades, as I love working with children at this age. I also teach part time with Mrs. Buitelaar in Grade 3 this year.
To help you get to know me a little better, I met my husband in Manitoba, although I am a BC girl. He is a Philosophy Professor at Trinity Western University and I spend my week with our two girls – Elle, who is 7 years old and starting Grade 2, and Paige 5 years old and starting Kindergarten. They have been the source of much joy and learning! I enjoy reading, going for walks and being outside (the beach is my favourite place), travelling and seeing new places, and entertaining.
I am anticipating a wonderful year together and hope that you had a restful and relaxing summer vacation. I am eager to meet each of you and your children. Along with the basic Language Arts and Math, I will be teaching Social Studies and Art. I would love to have some help with our Art time each week and so if you are available and interested, please let me know. I enjoy having a relaxed, yet structured class environment where we focus on our relationships, responsibilities, and respect for one another.
I look forward to teaching and loving your child and pray that they would feel loved, accepted, and at home in our classroom. It will be a pleasure for me to meet all of you soon. You are welcome to come by the classroom, contact me at home (604-746-8473), or email me (apenner@meisoc.com or penner_andrea@hotmail.com) if you have any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Andrea Penner
